Ava DuVernay was born on August 24 1972 at Long Beach California. DuVernay was able to explore her artistic and creative side as a child due to her aunt Denise. DuVernay went to the University of California Los Angeles after graduating, where she received degrees in English and African American Studies. While she was still studying, DuVernay began to consider producing for broadcast journalism. DuVernay was an intern at CBS News at the time of O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay was assigned to the watch and search the home of a particular juror. Her tasks to complete left her unhappy which is why, when she decided not to continue in the field of journalism, she was able to move to the world of publicity. DuVernay started her career as a junior publicity assistant for a film studio that was small following her graduation from the college. The DuVernay Agency is her first public relations agency.
