Anita Ekberg

 

Kerstin Aita Marianne (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29/09/1931 until 11/01/2015) was an Swedish actress who was well-known for her beauty and stunning figure. Her role as Sylvia, in Federico Federlini's film La Dolce Vita (1960), made her well-known. Ekberg was born in Sweden on the 29th September 1931. She was the sixth child of eight. When she was in her teens, Anita worked as a fashion model. Ekberg upon the request by her mother in 1950 she entered Miss Malmo. She was crowned the Miss Sweden contest. Despite not being fluent in English, she traveled to the United States to compete to win the Miss Universe title for 1951. While it was a non-formal pageant and the official one was formalized in 1952. Ekberg wasn't the Miss Universe winner, but she was among six contestants. She did however earn an endorsement from Universal Studios as a starlet. Ekberg was a Universal Starlet, where she learned acting, dancing, and drama. She did a brief appearance in The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello go to Mars (1953), Take Me to Town (1953) as well as The Golden Blade (53).
