Mary-Louise Parker

Mary-Louise Parker was born August 2, 1964. She is an American actress. After making her Broadway debut as Rita in Craig Lucas's Prelude to a Kiss in 1990 (for which she won a Tony Award nomination), Parker was a household name for roles in films such as Grand Canyon (1991), Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), The Client (1994), Bullets over Broadway (1994), A Place for Annie (1994), Boys on the Side (1995), The Portrait of a Lady (1996) as well as The Maker (1997). Parker was awarded the 2001 Tony Award as Best Actress in an Independent Film for her role in David Auburn's Proof of Catherine Llewellyn. She played Amy Gardner on NBC's television series The West Wing from 2001 until the year 2006. The role she played was so successful that she was nominated in 2002 for the Primetime Emmy Award in Outstanding Supporting Actress in the Drama Series. She won both the Golden Globe and a Primetime Emmy Award for her performance of Harper Pitt in the acclaimed HBO mini-series on television Angels in America in 2003.Parker was able to achieve huge success as Nancy Botwin, the lead character in the television series Weeds that ran from 2005 to 2012 and for which she received three nominations to the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in the field of Comedy Series between 2007 and 2009 and received the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for a Television Series Musical or Comedy in 2006.Her films in the past include her roles in The Spiderwick Chronicles (2008), Red (2010), R.I.P.D. (2013), as well as Red 2 (2013). Parker returned to Broadway in 2019 , to appear in The Sound Inside, for which she was awarded her second Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play. Parker has written articles for Esquire magazine since 2007. She also wrote Dear Mr. You in 2015. She was a part of the ABC miniseries, When We Rise, as Roma Guy. In 2018, she starred as a political advisor on the show Billions on Showtime.
