Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman (born May 25 24th, 1994) is an ex-retired American artistic gymnast, and a two-time Olympian. She was the captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five" and the 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams, which have won individual teams competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London, she won gold medals in both floor and team competitions and also the bronze medal on the balance beam, making her the most accomplished American gymnast in the Games. She received an Olympic gold medal for team competitions at the 2016 Olympics. Gabby Douglas as her teammate also took home gold. Raisman also earned silver medals in the individual all-around and floor exercise. Raisman has silver medals from the all-around individual, and also for the floor exercise. She also is two-time champion of the national championship in floor exercises (2012 and 2015), and the 2012 national champion in balance beam. She is also the reigning national champion for five consecutive years in all-around competitions at national championships (silver bronze, silver 2011 and 2015.). In 2013, she was admitted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber and was an ex-high school gymnast and Rick Raisman, on May 25, 1994, in Needham. She has three younger siblings: Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman who is Jewish and has stated that she takes great pride of being able to represent the United States of America but as well as the Jewish community across the globe. Raisman started gymnastics at the age of 18 months old. She attributes her initial love of gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", a U.S. women's gymnastics team that won a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She was a student at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing until Level 8. After that, she joined Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club with coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman completed her studies at Needham High School, 2012, after finishing her senior year through online courses and training to compete in the Olympics.
