ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born on July 2, 1989 (Alex Morgan age: 30) to Pamela and Michael Morgan. She was raised by her parents in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles. Morgan was multisport throughout her childhood, however she began playing soccer at 14. After high school, Morgan joined the Cypress Elite club team. They won the Coast Soccer League Under-16 championship and finished third place in their under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to improve her soccer skills at Diamond Bar High School. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) chose Morgan to be an All-American Athlete. She was also a participant of the Olympic Development Program (ODP) regional and state divisions. Morgan continued her soccer career at UC Berkeley where she was the California Golden Bears' leading scorer from her first season. She was instrumental in taking the team to the NCAA Tournament every year and twice in the second round. Morgan was one of four finalist for the Honda Sports Award and the first player from her school to make the list of Hermann Trophy finalists. Morgan completed her studies at Berkeley in the first semester of 2010, and was ranked third in all-time goals, points, and assists. Morgan was able to maintain soccer careers at the level of the national and college during her time at Berkeley. Morgan suffered an ACL injury her first year with Berkeley. This kept her from playing in U.S. women's soccer under 20 until April 2008. Following that she scored her first international goal during the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship in Mexico. Morgan was also a part-time player in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. She scored four goals, and earned the team gold medals. One of those goals was a win against Italy which secured the U.S. team the final spot in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest member of the team and he was the captain of the team to victory against France. Morgan was able to win despite the U.S. losing to Japan in the final World Cup match, became the first American player to score goals or assists.
